1.  Provide a 2-3 sentence overview of the plot.  (No spoilers!)
About Time, this film is about funny enough time...A guy (Tim) at a certain age can travel back in time and change things that have happened to him in the past like meeting the love of his life (Mary).

2.  What was your overall emotional response to the film? Why?
It was mostly a chick flick film where the element of romance was a major factor along with the relationship of this guy and his father. I felt the movie a bit slow and slightly predictable. It was predictable because of the chick flick element and one of the leading ladies has been in a chick flick before and quite often some actors are type casted and this was one of those movies for that. 

3.  What did you think of the lead character and why? 
Was there a particular incident in the film or thing that they did that made you feel this way? I liked him in the beginning of the film but then found him the week character he wasn't really actively assertive as I would of liked. So he became annoying even though he laid out humor at moments I was still engaged because he I wanted him to be assertive.

4.  Who was your favorite character (if not the lead) and why? Was there a particular incident in the film or thing that they did that made you feel this way?
I liked Rachel McAdams...but mainly because I had seen her on other films such as 'The Notebook and Time Travelers Wife' so I liked seeing her again in this film, she played a very similar role in both films so it was a bit of a type cast.

5.  Were there any moments that engaged you the most, and why?
There was a romantic moment that I engaged with when the main character when Tim just met Mary and asked to have her number and she gave it to him and he put it in his phone. he then said. "I thought this phone was old, but suddenly it my most prize possession" It's a very romantic thing to say. I was engaged but the moment happening because as a woman you want something like that said about you.

6.  Were there any moments in which you started to lose interest or disengaged from the film? Why do you think this was the case?
The movie was too long and you got the idea and message that was given half way through the film. It dragged out and a bit predictable.


7.  What were the overall strengths and weaknesses of the film?
A strength of the film was Rachel McAdams the Weakness was it went on for to long it was slow and very predictable. A classic chick flick that was boring and had a few moments were it was sweet a little funny and then alot of talking.

So I haven't had alot of time to be on the blog so I decided to write a big one. I have been working on my Table Play and have changed my idea a million times...firstly two people were at the side of a theatre stage one was a lady who was annoying a guy who serious about acting. Then there were good friends and guy and a woman and the guy confesses has been in love with her for years. Then I just came out with a thriller horror...What do I do? So confused.

First Script; Twiggy and John

INT.Theatre stage

The side of the stage is dark with only the blue emergency light on. Big block boxes are leaning against the back wall. a table with props are next to them and a rubbish bin that is full. John a late twenty's male, dark hair, fit build, is standing infront of the boxes and is dressed in costume ready to preform on stage. Twiggy a mid twenty's female with sandy blonde hair and a small thing figure, enters and surprises John.

Twiggy

Hi!

John

Hi.

Twiggy

You're on next!

John

Yeah, I know...

TWIGGY

You and I haven't spoken much.

JOHN

mmhm.

TWIGGY

I've seen you're acting though, you're really good.

John

Thanks.

Twiggy

Have you been acting long?

John

yeah, we need to be quiet, their is a performance on and I am close to being on the stage.

Twiggy

Oh sorry....It's just I'm really nervous and I talk alot when I'm nervous. i took this spray, it's homeopathy and it's mean't to clam you down it's not really working yet, I suppose it needs a bit of a kick or something I just need to wait for it to sink in.

twiggy starts jumping up and down on the spot.

John

What are you doing?

Twiggy

Trying to get rid of the nerves, I feel like i am going to piss my pants. Have you every felt like that? like you need to go to the toilet just before going on stage.

John

No.

TWIGGY

Oh feels like my heart is beating out of my chest, it's racing so fast.My daughter is in the audience, shes only four.

twiggy opens the side curtain and waves to her daughter.

TWIGGY

Hey babygirl.

Twiggy sees people behind a table in the audience.

Twiggy (CONT)

Wow those guys look important who are they?

John

Talent Scouts which is why we need to keep it down and focus.

Then I wrote another scene with Duncan Saarkies letting us do our thing.

INT. THEATRESTAGE

Twiggy is standing  right in Johns personal space. John is backed up more against the wall where the props table is.

JOHN

What is you're problem!?

TWIGGY

What do you mean?

JOHN

What the fuck is wrong with you!?

Twiggy starts to back away from John

TWIGGY

Why are you yelling at me?

JOHN

Seriously there is something not right with you aye. I have told you so many times to shut up and you just won’t shut up!

Twiggy looks down at the floor.

JOHN (CONT’D)

Are you mental?

TWIGGY

What?

Twiggy starts to cry. John leans over Twiggy and starts to yell at her.

JOHN

Are you mental?? There are talent scouts out in the audience. I am trying to stay in character and you are distracting the shit out of me with just bullshit. I don’t care that you have a new car. I couldn't give to shits that you love cats and have a daughter in the audience. Just let me concentrate.

The actors on stage stop there performance and start looking at John. Twiggy covers her face with her hands and sobbs immensely. John realizes that she is really upset.

JOHN (CONT’D)

Oh shit! I’m sorry

John goes to hug Twiggy but she pushes him off her.

TWIGGY

What is my problem? What is you're problem? I was only trying to be nice. It’s not my fault you live with a carrot up your arse! I honestly thought maybe you might be a really nice guy. But you’re just like all the rest of the nasty, infuriating, selfish men I know.

JOHN

Oh god, I’m so sorry.

TWIGGY

Men like you always are. You need to wear a caution sign around your neck saying I will smash a womans heart into a million pieces beware!

JOHN

I know...I’m a arsehole.

TWIGGY

Yes you are.

JOHN

I feel awful.

John walks closer to Twiggy

TWIGGY

Just leave me alone.

JOHN

I feel really bad...

TWIGGY

JOHN

I do care that you have a daughter in the audience. I reckon she will really enjoy watching you.

TWIGGY

Yeah right.

JOHN

I do. Argh I’ve just had a really bad day and I need these talent scouts to find me a placement. I’m really hoping to move to Australia, I’m struggling in my accountant job and heard Melbourne is the place to be for the arts.

Twiggy wipes her tears off her face

TWIGGY

Yeah?

JOHN

Yeah. So I am sorry. I should of told you that. Plus I shouldn’t of yelled at you.

TWIGGY

Yeah you shouldn’t anyway I’m not the mental one...your the one wearing a pig costume.

So that's as far as i got with that. Then I wrote another script about with Nick falling in love with Samatha but I wasn't sure where it was going.

Int.Couch.NIGHT

The living room lamp is switched on and the Television clicks and starts viewing some commercial in the background. The laptop is set up next to the Television ready for the placement of the DVD. The living room couch is draped in a soft violet duvet and the cushions are fluffy and soft. Samantha, female, 28 has long blonde hair that is waving and free flowing, her blue eyes are like crystals and she is curvy in all the right places. Nick, male, 29 has sandy blonde hair and is body is toned but no muscle, he is tidy and clean shaven. He takes care of himself well and is a perfectionist unlike Samantha who is free spirited.

They walk into the living room with takeaways in there hand and a scary movie. Samantha walks to the couch and slumps down into the seat, with legs spread out and close enough to Nick that they touch hands, she throws her food next to her. Nick sits politely next to Sam and places his food next to him. He gazes at there hands touching.

Samantha

Hahaha That guy was so funny at the DVD shop. Asking me all those questions he seemed pretty keen. Pretty awkward how he gave me his number. Should I text him?

Nick

I dunno.

SAMANTHA

Whats with you tonight?

Nick

Nothing.

SAMANTHA

You seem a bit down.

Nick

Just tired.

SAMANTHA

You sure?

Nick

Yeah.

SAMANTHA

Hey seriously whats up? I know when somethings wrong what is it?

Nick

Can we just eat, I'm hungry.

SAMANTHA

Yeah ok? Should I put the movie on?

Nick

If you want.

Sam looks at Nick confused and gets up from the couch to put the movie into the laptop, which then is projected onto the television screen. Nick looks back at her in a defensive way. Sam tries to put the movie on but the laptop is slow.

SAMANTHA

Bloody laptop, it needs clearing out it's so fucken slow. Argh just want to throw the bloody thing against the wall.

Nick

Just get a hard drive.

SAMANTHA

I have one, but that's full too.

Nick

Well empty your hard drive then.

SAMANTHA

I can't! It won't let me delete the stuff off it.

Nick

What? Why?

SAMANTHA

I dunno it just won't let me.

Nick

I have one at home you can have, I'll bring it tomorrow so you can put your stuff on that and use it until you get a new one.

SAMANTHA

Thanks Nick. Your always so good me.

Nick (sarcastically)

Yeah I am.

SAMANTHA

Why did you say it like that?... What is up with you tonight?

NICK

Nothing! Can we just leave it alone!

SAMANTHA

ok.

Sam looks confused and walks back to the couch and huddles her legs into her chest and sits some distance away from Nick. Their is silence from them both, only the rustling of the takeaways bag as they both start to dish out there food and eat it.

SAMANTHA

So you going to talk to me?

NICK

Leave it alone Sam.

SAMANTHA

I'm your friend though can you just tell me. Is it work? I know you have been over your work mates lately. You need to delegate more.

NICK

That's part of it, I guess.

Nick takes a bite of his burger and stares at the T.V. Sam takes a drink and places it on the ground.

SAMANTHA

That's part of it...what do you mean?

NICK

Nothing. I'm just tired and hungry.

SAMANTHA

You always do this shut me out, it's so annoying and hard to talk to you. Can you just talk to me please.

Sam stops eating and looks at Nick.

NICK

Nothing Sam, I'm just over everything at the moment.

SAMANTHA

Like what?

NICK

Like everything, work, life, you.

SAMANTHA

Me? what did I do?

NICK

Just don't worry about it.

SAMANTHA

Argh your being so annoying. Just talk to me please!

Nick puts his food down and turns his body to face Sam. Sam puts her food down and puts her hood up on her head as the room temperature begins to feel cold.

NICK

It's just...

SAMANTHA

What? have I done something?

NICK

No.

SAMANTHA

Then what? Your my best mate talk to me, what is going on?

NICK

That's just it. I'm your best mate.

SAMANTHA

Yeah?

NICK

I don't want to be just your best mate Sam...

SAMANTHA

What?

NICK

...ok...I;m really into you Sam I have been for ages but I know you only see me as your best mate and it sucks. You always go out with these arsehole guys and none of them treat you right and I am sitting right here and I would treat you right. I just want a chance like all the other guys. It's hard to work it out and I'm not sure I can do it anymore. Like that guy at the DVD shop tonight. Your'l text him and I have to sit here watching you do that. It's really hard and I don't know what to do.

SAMANTHA

Omg...Nick. But I don't understand how long have you felt like this?

NICK

It doens't matter.

SAMANTHA

Oh god...this is not happening...You know I care about you so much, I didn't even know. I don't want to loose you.

Sam reaches out and wraps her arms around Nick. He holds her tightly back and doesn't let go. Sam moves away and looks at him.

SAMANTHA (CONT)

Why didn't you tell me? I feel awful that you have been hurting this much, you should of said something? Oh..god...This is all my fault.

NICK

No it's not it's my fault, It's mine.

SAMANTHA

No it's not it's mine I feel like I've been leading you on. I didn't know I was hurting you.

Sam starts to tear up. The movie sounds are playing in the background.

NICK

You weren't to know... It's just hard seeing you with these other guys Like thats  arsehole who ditched you at the party and then when he showed up he was pissed and made out with your best mate. That arsehole got a chance with you and treated you like shit and I would never treat you like that. Nice guys always finish last. I Just need some need time away from you.

SAMANTHA

How much time? I don't want to loose you.

NICK

I don't want to loose you either, I just need some space. I have to do this for the long run to make me happy. I know it's hard now but it's for the best.

SAMANTHA (tearing up)

Best for who? Nick this is stupid you don't need to have space from me I know it must be hard but I'm your friend you can't just not hang out with me.

NICK

This is hard for me too. I don't want to do this, you have to see it from my prospective.

SAMANTHA (TEARING UP)

This is just stupid, YOU'RE BEING STUPID!

NICK

Sam I'm sorry..I don't like seeing you upset...This is really hard for me too, I don't want to let you go.

SAMANTHA (Crying)

FUCK OFF NICK!..I don't care, just leave me the fuck alone!

NICK

Sam...Don't be like that.

SAMANTHA(Crying)

I want you to go!

Sam walks to the computer and starts clicking at the mouse to shut the movie off. She wipes tears away discreetly. Nick doesn't move from were hes standing.

Nick

You would of moved on anyway, when you found a new guy!

Sam ignores him and keeps trying to click the mouse on the laptop to shut the movie down.

Nick (CONT)

You always find a new guy and I hardly hear from you.Clearly you only want me as your friend and that fucking sucks. Think about it Sam.

Sam still tries to ignore him and wipes more tears off her face. A tear drop lands on the laptop and she quickly wipes it away with her sleeve. She then clicks the mouse on the laptop again and the laptop freezes.

NICK (CONT)

I'm sorry Sam...

Sam picks up the laptop and slams it on the ground!

SAMANTHA (Crying)

THIS FUCKING LAPTOP! ARGH! FOR FAKE SAKE! IT"S JUST A FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT!...ARGH!...

Sam looks at the laptop and takes a deep breath and starts to sobb uncontrollably. Nick walks over and wraps his arms around her. Sam doesn't hug back.

NICK

I'm am so sorry...

SAMANTHA

JUST FUCK OFF NICK SERIOUSLY FUCK OFF!

NICK

Sam just listen for a second, I don't know what else to do.

SAMANTHA

Neither do I. What choice do I have? I either go out with you so i don't loose you. Or I don't go out with you and loose you anyway.

NICK

I should never of said anything.

SAMANTHA

Great!..and then you would of been shutting me out more. Plus I would of been hurting you. This is bullshit!

Nick

Now I have started a thriller horror...

Int.Bathroom.Night

Wedding Day

Amy's dress is draped to the ground in soft ivory fabric and embroidered with detailing of star glitter shaped beads and flowers. Her long blonde hair is softly pinned up with a diamond shaped star and her make up is flawless, turning her into one of those porcelain dolls. Her beautiful 20 carat diamond sits on her wedding finger and sparkles in the light in all directions. Amy enters the bathroom where it is cold and the walls are wooden and so is the floor, Lockwood the sinks are fitted with the finest porcelain and unique shaped taps. There are three cubicles and the doors are black with gold handles. The bathroom is clean and tidy with huge mirrors and antique edging around them.

Amy enters the bathroom you hear the click clack of her high ivory wedding heels. Amy take a glance in the mirror and notices her miscara is a bit smudged so she grabs a tissue on the sink and wipes under her eye. She spots a black figure in the bathroom. The figure (Sam) walks out of the toilet cubical with a hood up and black clothes covering her body only eyes are seen. Sam walks over to the bathroom door and locks it. Amy stands in fear and grabs the edge of the sink. Sam walks over to Amy and places a knife up to Amy's neck.

Sam (calmly)

Keep quiet. Or I will slit your throat.

Amy nods her head lightly

SAM (calmly)

Nice ring.

Amy (whisper)

You can have it...I don't have any mone..

SAM

Shut, the fuck up.

Sam places her face close to Amy's necklace. Amy winces and a tear softly brushes her cheek.

Sam (cont)

Real diamonds ha?

Amy swallows and just stares at Sam with a tear running down her face.

AMY (Softly Crying)

What do you want?

SAM (psychotic)

Oh I'm sorry are you in a hurry? Is there somewhere you have to be? Your such a BITCH Amy.

Amy looks shocked.

AMY

Ho..w...how do you know my name? Who are you?

SAM (PSYCHOTIC)

This isn't the movie Scream Amy where we get to play a little guessing game. But if you want to play like that it could be fun. How do I know your name?

AMY (softly)

I don't know.

Sam

Buzzer noise. Wrong answer.

Sam grabs a piece of Amy's dress and rips a massive part of it off exposing Amy's legs. Amy cries out.

AMY (Screams)

AH! Help me! Someone help me!

Sam covers Amy's mouth. Sam whispers in Amy's ear.

SAM

Shut the fuck up.

Sam and Amy look around the bathroom to hear if anyone is coming.

SAM (CONT)

You're going to shut the fuck up.

Amy nods her head

SAM (CONT)

Good girl.

Amy looks confused she starts to recognize Sam's voice.

AMY

Who are you?

SAM

Now you give a shit about who I am. A bit late for that don't you think!

AMY

I don't understand what do you want with me? I...I don't have any money. What do you want!

SAM

I want what you took from me. What bitches like you always take from me.

Sam walks around the bathroom checking the bathroom windows are closed. While distracted Amy looks around the room for a way out, or an object to grab but there is only a box of tissues and a towel hanging from the towel rail.

AMY

Look, just let me go, people will be wondering where I am.

There's a knock at the bathroom door. Sam walks over to Amy and puts the knife up to her neck.

Voice

Hello?

SAM

The bathroom is closed! Try the other one out the corridor.

Voice

Ok, Thanks.

Amy goes to yell out but Sam pushes the knife in her neck and it nicks her skin making it bleed.

Amy (crying)

Please just let me go, I'll do whatever you want please.

SAM (mimicking)

Haha Please let me go. I'll do anything. You think your such a goodgirl, you never do anything wrong. perfect little Amy. I'm a perfect student. I get A's on my maths paper and I am the teachers pet. Haha I bet you sat of the teachers lap...and lapped that up!

AMY (Crying)

Just let me go.

About a woman who seeks revenge...

I am trying to make use of verbs that are subject to change in the characters next move and brings more of a plot line that adds diversity. 

I am confused on where to go from here. If there are any ideas on which one to go for or what to do please comment  :)

A Beat Sheet 

This is for my silent short film.

Act 1

-          A woman is looking at her computer screen and is on a dating website looking at guys.

-          The woman is at the cinemas waiting anxiously with a red rose.

-          The woman looks nervous and keeps looking at the clock.

-          A guy walks in the cinemas holding a red rose.

-          The woman finds she is too shy and quickly hides her rose.

-          She walks out of the cinemas and throws the red rose in the rubbish bin.

-          When she walks out the door the guy who works at the cinemas holds the door for her.

-          The woman is back to looking on the dating website looking at guys.

-          The next night she is back at the cinemas with a yellow rose.

-          She waits anxiously again, looking at the time on her cellphone.

-          The woman looks up from her phone and a guy enters with a yellow rose.

-          Again she gets shy, and throws away her yellow rose in the cinemas rubbish bin.

-          As she walks out the door the guy who work at at the cinemas is cleaning and holds the door open for her again.

-          The woman is back looking on the internet again and is looking at the dating website.

-          She goes back to the movies with a white rose.

-          She waits anxiously and is left waiting there until closing time.

-          The guy who works at the cinemas comes and taps her on the shoulder and shows her the cinemas is closing.

-          The woman walks off and throws the white rose in the rubbish bin on her way out.

Act 2

-          The next day the woman comes into the cinemas on her own.

-          She goes to the counter on her own and looks depressed.

-          The guy behind the counter smiles at her.

-          The woman doesn't smile back.

-          The woman goes into the cinemas on her own.

-          The woman walks out of the cinema and the guy who works at the cinemas is dressed in a big cuddle bear mascot outfit handing out discount vouchers to the movies.

-          The woman looks down and walks straight past him.

-          The guy follows her and taps her on the shoulder.

-          The woman turns around the guy hands her a discount voucher.

-          The woman giggles at his outfit and takes a discount voucher.

-          The woman starts to walk off and the guy taps her on the shoulder again.

-          The guy takes off his bear head.

-          He reaches in the bear suit and pulls out a bunch of fake red, yellow and white roses.

-          The woman looks at him and smiles.

Act 3

-          The woman waits at the cinemas and she is holding the fake roses.

-          The guy from the cinemas walks in they smile at each other and she reaches out her hand and he takes it.

-          They both turn their backs and walk off towards the line.

Coraline/ Story Beat Sheet

CORALINE           

GENRE: American stop-motion 3D horror/fantasy film.            

DATE: 2009

Opening Image : Through each credit there is an image of a mechanical hand pulling apart a doll and remaking it. 

Set-Up:-Coraline walks around the garden of her new house and meets a boy about her age that she finds annoying. Coraline is rude and abrupt.

-Coraline also meets a strange black cat.

-Coraline is rude to her parents but also her parents don't give her any attention and are both focused on writing a gardening catalogue together. The father writes them and the mother edits them. They also can't cook. 

Theme Stated:
-Coraline starts to explores the150 year old house and discovers a small hidden door.
Corlaine falls asleep and wakes up to find a jumping mouse that indicates for her to follow her to the small door.
-Corlaine crawls through the door...will she go in? what will be on the other side?
The other parents start showing her a really good time when she awakes and crawls through the door and lives in the other dimension of life away from her real parents.
–Midpoint
-Coraline wakes up but not in the real world still in the other world as she never really slept.
-Coraline escapes but is still trapped inside the house and meets the other mother whos body shape has turned into a spider type figure with thin mechanical fingers, shown at the start of the film.
-The last image is of the house that all of this took place in. There is a sign saying pink palace apartments and the creepy black sat is sitting on the sign alot like Alice in wonderland cat walks off the sign but inside magically slinks into the pole that is holding up the sign.

-She asks her mother to open it. Her mother finds a button shaped key and unlocks the small door in the living room.

-Corlaine pics up a photos of her friends she misses them all and tucks herself into bed.

Catalyst:

Debate:

-She crawls through and meets her other parents with buttons sewn on their eyes.

-The other parents are overly nice and cook a good meal for Coraline and make her feel welcome she is slightly unsure about it all but falls asleep and wakes up back through the small door.

-Corlaine tries to tell her parents about about has happened and yet they won't listen to her, they don't believe it happened

Break into Two:

Fun and Games/B Story:

-The other parents make the next door neighbor boy for coraline he has buttons on his eyes and can't talk as Coraline found him annoying talking so much. so now she finds herself seeking adventures by watching shows the other dimension and meeting new people.

-She is noticably happier away from her real parents and real life.

 -Coralines mother locked the small door to the other world 

-Coraline has trouble with her real parents and her mother won't buy her a pair of colourful gloves she wants.

-Coralines mother tries to defuse Coralines temper with saying she might find school good to get into. But you see how much Corlaine is not tempted by school because of the fun she is having in the other world.

-Coraline decides to sneak the key and unlock the door and crawl through. 

Bad Guys Close In:

-The other parents have made Coraline some new clothes and their is a pile of baked goods on the table with a note saying to go and watch the show that's on.

-The creepy cat comes back and he can talk to Coraline in the other world. He warns Coraline that the other parents are that good. She asks him why and the cat say that the next door neighbor boy told him.

-Corlaine watchs the show downstairs and is sweeped up in the theatrics of it all.

-You start to see when the other parents are that good as the next door neighbor boy goes home after watching the show with Coraline. Behind Coralines back he is not happy but can't talk. The other mother indicates to him to fake smile and keep the world happy that Coraline is living in. She shuts the door.

-When Coraline get back inside the upstairs the other parents ask her if she is happy living here and Coraline agrees. The other parents say in order for you to stay here you need to have buttons sewn into your eyes.

-Corlaine freaks out and does not want to stay.

All Is Lost:

-She is trapped inside that world and tries to escape and the creepy black cat wants to help her. When she tries to escape the other mother changes her body figure into a thins threatening character and when Coraline back chats her, the mother throws her in a locked room.

-When trapped in the room she meets three children who had died and lost there eyes because the other mother had sewn them into the childrens eyes. In order to free there sprit Coraline has to find there eyes and escape.

Dark Night of the Soul:

-She finally escapes but when returns to home she finds herself left with no parents they are missing and are nowhere to be seen. Coraline cries in her bed and makes a pretend mother and father out of pillows and falls asleep next to them.

-Coraline knows her parents are trapped in the other world and decides to go back to the other world and look for the missing eyes for the children and her parents.

-She finds the eyes and the creepy black cat helps her to find them. 

-Coraline reaches the other mother and finds her parents trapped inside a snow globe that her real father owned.

-She breaks them free and escapes the other mother through the small door.

Break into Three:

-When she comes back her real parents are home and know nothing of what has happened.

-She makes friends with the black cat and tells the cat that they need to set the children free with the eyes they collected.

-When they fall asleep the children tell her it's not over and Coraline walks in the garden and comes arcoss one of the other mothers mechanical hands that grabs her.

- The next door neighbor boy crushes the rock and destroys the hand and saves Coralines life.

Finale:

-The dark clouds lift off and the family are all in the garden with the neighbor including the boy and his nana whos daughter was one of the children who were trapped in the other world with button eyes.

-Coraline takes round pink lemonade to them all while they plant red tulips.

Final Image:

Eagle vs Shark (2007) Film Review

This film is a humorous love story about two people finding love. Lily shy, polite and socially awkward woman, who works at a burger place meets, Jarrod a socially awkward and rude guy, who works at a video game store. Lily finds herself on a road trip with Jarrod to find his high school bully to seek revenge. Lily and Jarrod develop on their  friendship as Jarrod showed more interest in Jenny, Lily's co-worker.

I found this film to have it is a humor I could understand coming from New Zealand. But those who are foreigners could find this film disengaging to watch. There where references to many aspects that people could relate to though. for example when Lily was playing video games and the guys who played her would become frustrated in not being able to bet her. Their was elements the film being current but also outdated. Those who were living in a time when the dial up broadband or old desktop computers where around.

I didn't enjoy watching the main male character (Jarrod) he seemed to be emotionally closed off and rude to the main female (Lily). It is because of his mistreatment to her that I didn't connect with.

Lily was my favorite character because she portrayed a kind side to her personality. She was generous to Jarrod who didn't deserve to be treated that way. She found a way to break down his walls with her sweet, naive nature.

Their was a moment that engaged me between the two main characters. Jarrod was upset with his high school reunion fight with his old bully and Lily was comforting, they both lay in sleeping bags on the top of a hillside.

Lily

Yep

Jarrod

Why don't you go away?

Lily

I don't want to.

Jarrod

Why?
I mean what a loser.

Lily

Yep.

Jarrod

Why are you hanging around me?
You loser.
It's not worth it.

Lily

Yeah it is.

I identified with this as I dated a guy who used to feel a certain way about himself and I thought he was someone really special and yet he thought he wasn't that great. It was a connecting moment as I went back to the time in my life where I used to make him feel better about who he was and how I saw him.

I disconnected from the film when Jarrod and his pessimistic attitude, but still wanted to watch him due to the fact that I wanted to know if he was going to start breaking down his walls with Lily. Mainly because Lily was trying so hard to grab his attention and show him that she was a descant person, which I can also relate to through past relationships, especially if the other person has had someone in their life that has made them lose that trust in someone special.

The strengths in this film were mostly the dry humor and the music set the tone for the film and the atmosphere. Also if you were in the age bracket of understanding some of the out dated items or familiar slogans used such as Lily's brother conversing on some old films quotes...such as I'll be back.
